WCW/nWo Thunder (1999) was the PlayStation follow-up to WCW Nitro, focusing on the Thunder television show. Featuring a large roster of WCW stars, it emphasized flashy entrances, taunts, and character-specific catchphrases. Each wrestler had pre-match video promos, adding personality and presentation flair uncommon at the time.
Gameplay, however, was criticized for being shallow, with stiff controls and repetitive move sets. While the arenas, commentary, and roster breadth carried the experience, the mechanics couldn’t match the depth or fun of AKI’s N64 titles. Still, for fans of WCW’s TV dominance in the late ’90s, it delivered spectacle and nostalgia.
